(The following information was provided by Towamencin Township.)
Due to the storm forecast for the region, Towamencin Township is declaring a Snow Emergency effective 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, through noon on Saturday, Jan. 20.
During this period, parking vehicles on roads posted as Snow Emergency Routes is prohibited and subject to citation and towing.
The township is also asking all residents, even those not living on a posted Snow Emergency Routes, to remove all vehicles, trash receptacles and any other items from the roadways, keeping them as far from the street line as possible. This will ensure the streets are cleared, by allowing drivers an unobstructed ability to plow the roadways.
Snow Reminders:
• Do not leave trash receptacles by the roadway or curb, store close to home or inside garage.
• Move all equipment, such as basketball nets, etc., far from the street line and secure for high winds.
• Check the security and location of your mailbox. Snow removal operations can damage mailboxes that are not properly secure or placed in accordance with USPS guidelines.
• Plowing of snow from your driveways / sidewalks into the roadways is prohibited by township ordinance and may result in a fine. The purpose of this ordinance is to keep our streets clear for safe travel. For residents who have a private contractor clearing their driveways, please remind them of this provision.
• Fire Hydrants: a fire hydrant can help save lives and property in your neighborhood. The township and fire company request residents assist the community by keeping fire hydrants clear of snow. If you have a fire hydrant located near your home, we would appreciate your help in clearing the snow.
• Check on the elderly and frail in your neighborhoods. If you know of an elderly neighbor who needs assistance, we encourage you to help them, this includes helping to shovel their snow.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and please be safe.
