Telford Borough Council Welcomes Two New Members; Incumbent Resigns

The newly elected members of the Telford Borough Council were seated Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

The members include Democrats Katherine Farina and Meredith Torres. Republican incumbents Carolyn Crouthamel and Bob Jacobus were also sworn in after winning re-election. Republican incumbent Eric Kratz was also due to be sworn in after winning re-election but submitted his resignation a few days prior to the meeting. Council will consider a replacement candidate recommended by the Vacancy Board at the January 15 meeting.

Following the swearing in ceremony, council unanimously elected Emiline Weiss as council president, Carolyn Crouthamel as council vice president and Meredith Torres as council president protempore.

Turning to official business, council adopted a resolution to join the Pennsylvania junior council person program, which allows high school students to gain experience in local government. Following the resolution’s adoption, Souderton Area High School student Madison Golden was sworn in as the council’s first junior council person.

Council also approved a revised public meeting and attendance policy allowing business owners, tenants and lesses to participate in public comment. The proposal had previously been revised to remove language that discouraged recording members of the public due to community opposition.

Council additionally approved the 2024 fee schedule, with a new $25 single day fee for all athletic field rentals. Previously, users were only charged if the lights were utilized.

On another note, borough manager Kyle Detweiler announced that the borough received the full $146,000 grant for the Franklin Alley Swale improvement project. Detweiler credited the support of state Rep. Steve Malagari and state Sen. Maria Collett for the grant’s approval.
