Towamencin Police Investigating Rash of Recent Thefts from Vehicles

Towamencin Police are reminding residents throughout the township to keep their vehicles locked and to refrain from keeping valuable items in their vehicles following a recent string of thefts from vehicles as well as the theft of a vehicle.

Chief Timothy Troxel confirmed to North Penn Now his department is investigating multiple incidents that occurred between Christmas and Jan. 3. The incidents include:

  • A theft from a vehicle on Rampart Lane, which occurred sometime between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Dec. 25
  • The theft of a vehicle on Rampart Lane, which occurred sometime between 5:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 26
  • A theft from a vehicle on Deerfield Drive, which is estimated to have occurred on Dec. 27

Additionally, during the overnight hours of Jan. 3, a total of six vehicles were entered at three residences on Parkview Drive. Troxel said $20 was stolen from one vehicle, with nothing else taken from the other five vehicles.

"There was no force used to enter any of the vehicles, and indications are that all the vehicles entered were unlocked with items ranging from purses to gift cards in plain view inside the vehicles,” Troxel said.

According to investigators, the vehicle that was stolen from Rampart Lane was unlocked with the keys left inside of the vehicle. Police recovered the stolen vehicle in Bensalem on Jan. 3, and it is currently being processed for fingerprints and potential DNA evidence.

"Our detectives have recovered some video surveillance from a residence on Parkview Drive that may show the suspects, but it is still being analyzed and we are still trying to determine whether it is related to the thefts,” Troxel said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the thefts — especially those within the Stonebridge community who may have security or doorbell cameras — to contact them at 215-368-7606.

The investigation is occurring at the same time that police in neighboring Lower Salford Township issued a similar reminder to residents to lock the doors to their vehicles, following the theft of a purse from an unlocked vehicle on Jan. 2 at an undisclosed location in the township. A credit card that was in the purse was later used at the Walmart in Wyncote, and a surveillance photo of the suspect vehicle can be viewed here.

It's currently unclear if the incident is related to the thefts in Towamencin Township.
