Lansdale Man Pleads Guilty to Firearm Charge Stemming from Motorcycle Crash in Towamencin

A Lansdale man faces a maximum seven years in prison for illegally carrying a concealed and loaded Sig Sauer P365 handgun that was discovered during a February 2023 motorcycle crash in Towamencin Township, according to The Reporter.

Robert Austin Jenkins, 26, of the 200 block of North Valley Forge Road, pleaded guilty this week in Montgomery County court to a felony charge of firearms not to be carried without a license, per the report. Jenkins is free on bail pending a March sentencing hearing. Jenkins could receive a lesser prison sentence than the possible 3 ½ to 7 years, per reports.

Police said Jenkins moved from Texas recently and never obtained a concealed carry permit, per the report.

Police responded to a motorcycle crash at Forty Foot and Quarry roads at 6:44 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2023, and found four motorcycles at the intersection. Jenkins was sitting on one of the motorcycles, dazed, and looking "very pale and would not respond to verbal commands,” police said. Police determined Jenkins had crashed into another motorcyclist while traveling southbound on Forty Foot Road, police said.

After police moved Jenkins to the curb, they found damage to his motorcycle, including a ripped off foot peg, police said. Jenkins suffered from scrapes on his skin and his clothes were ripped, police said. He told police that he "had an adrenaline dump from the crash,” per reports.

Then, officers found the gun concealed in his waistband, police said, and Jenkins did not own a permit. The gun was loaded with 12 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber, police said.

Jenkin’s wife had purchased the gun on Nov. 21, 2021, per reports. Read more on the incident here.
