The former manager of Homesense in Montgomeryville is facing charges after he allegedly stole more than $4,200 in cash across six separate incidents.
Dameon Hodge, 46, of Philadelphia, has been charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property, following an investigation by the Montgomery Township Police Department.
Police were contacted during the afternoon of Sept. 28, 2023, by a loss prevention employee who was reporting an alleged theft by a former manager, identified as Hodge. The employee presented investigators with a binder detailing six separate incidents between Aug. 5, 2023 and Sept. 19, 2023 involving Hodge conducting fraudulent transactions at the register and removing cash from either the register or the safe in the cash office, police said.
Prior to meeting with police, the employee said they confronted Hodge about the incidents, but Hodge denied any wrongdoing and claimed he left the cash with instructions for other managers, according to the complaint. Hodge left the store following the meeting, and failed to appear for his scheduled shifts in the days that followed, and mailed his keys back to the store, the report states.
Investigators said surveillance footage of the incidents corroborates the theft allegations, and statements provided by two assistant managers indicated Hodge never left them with the cash or instructions.
Hodge was arraigned last week on the charges, and he’s currently awaiting a preliminary hearing later this month In front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
(Editor's note: a prior version of this article quoted the criminal complaint as Home Goods, however we have since learned Hodge was the former manager of Homesense in the same shopping center. The article has been updated to reflect this information.)
