Blue Bell Woman Dies After Being Run Over by Own Vehicle

A Blue Bell woman is dead after her Acura SUV rolled over her in a driveway of a home owned by her family in Catasauqua, Lehigh County, police said.

Santosh Gupta-Bala, 64, was killed Sunday evening at a home along the 900 block of Bridge Court in Catasauqua Borough in the Walnut Park subdivision, according to Lehigh County property records.

Gupta-Bala was unloading her trunk around 6:30 p.m. when her car began to roll, according to WFMZ. She tried to get back in, but fell underneath it, and she was run over, per the report.

The SUV came to a rest in the street after hitting a pickup truck.

According to The Morning Call, Gupta-Bala was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, where she succumbed to injuries around 8:45 p.m. Her death, pe the Lehigh County Coroner, was caused by multiple traumatic injuries, with the manner listed as accidental, per reports.

Emergency Alerts County of Lehigh Facebook page showed the call came in at 6:34 p.m. as a motor vehicle accident with rescue and a pedestrian struck.

"Single vehicle MVA. Vehicle struck a pedestrian and is still on top of them. Elderly female unconscious,” stated the emergency services alert. Gupta-Bala was extricated by 6:43 p.m., per reports.

According to the fire department’s Facebook post, Gupta-Bala was found pinned under the front of the vehicle. Within four minutes, fire rescue arrived, stabilized the vehicle, and set up airbags for lifting operations to free her, according to the fire department.

Catasauqua Fire Department District 2 and Northampton Regional Emergency Medical Services Inc responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
