DUI Charges Filed Against Driver Involved in Tuesday Night Crash with Injuries in Upper Gwynedd

DUI charges have been filed against a Norristown man who was involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night at the intersection of North Wales and Hancock roads in Upper Gwynedd Township.

Police were called to the scene at 8:08 p.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries. Arriving officers observed a white Toyota 4Runner with rear-end damage and a black Honda Pilot with heavy front-end damage. Witnesses said the driver of the Honda — later identified as 39-year-old Nicolas Tum-Gregorio — had fled the scene on foot after the crash, and police observed one opened can of beer and one unopened can of beer inside of the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

Tum-Gregorio was located lying in a tree line along the 1400 block of North Wales Road and he was subsequently detained, police said. Tum-Gregorio was described by police as having slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelling of alcohol, and through an interpreter, he allegedly confessed to driving the vehicle and stated there were no other passengers, according to the complaint.

The driver of the Toyota suffered a head injury of unknown severity and was transported from the scene via ambulance to Lansdale Hospital for treatment.

Police said Tum-Gregorio did not have a driver’s license, and made no attempt to render aid or provide his registration or insurance after the crash. He also failed a series of field sobriety tests once in custody, the report states.

The results of blood testing to determine Tum-Gregorio’s blood-alcohol content is pending, police said.

Tum-Gregorio was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on charges of DUI, accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, and related traffic offenses. He’s currently free on $10,000 unsecured bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
