Tyrese Maxey was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played between December 23 and December 29.
It's the second such honor of Maxey's career.
The Sixers cornerstone guard averaged 32.3 points per game during the week, ranking third in the NBA in scoring during the week and helping lead the Sixers to a 3-0 record.
Maxey's open-floor steal and dunk, followed by a game-sealing step-back three, punctuated a win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs after Joel Embiid was ejected in the second quarter.
He recorded three more steals to go along with 33 points and 12 assists to help the Sixers upset the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day. Maxey scored 12 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter to help Philadelphia hold off the Utah Jazz on Saturday night.
Those steals are microcosmic of a season characterized by marked defensive growth for Maxey. Perhaps as important, he shot 39 percent on 11 three-point attempts per game. That's a stability in shooting that Philadelphia needs and has sorely lacked for most of the season.
