The defendant will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
A Towamencin Township man and Kutztown University junior turned himself in to Hatfield Police Tuesday morning on two counts each of vehicular homicide and homicide by vehicle while DUI for his alleged role in a June crash that claimed the lives of a husband and wife.
Michael Patrick Lennon, 21, of Ridgewood Way, will be processed and arraigned this afternoon before Magisterial District Judge Richard H. Welsh in Limerick Township, according to court records.
Lennon is also charged with three misdemeanor counts of DUI of a controlled substance, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and two summary charges of speeding and failure to obey traffic control devices, per court records.
A vehicular homicide conviction in Pennsylvania carries a prison sentence of up to seven years and fines as high as $15,000 per offense.
Authorities allege Lennon, a Pennsylvania Department of Health medical marijuana cardholder, had traces of marijuana in his system when he was speeding in a light blue 2011 Ford Escape on June 8 at 4:59 p.m. southbound on Route 309. Police allege he lost control in the southbound right-turn-only lane of Route 309 and collided with the driver's side of a white 2021 Toyota Camry at Bergey Road in Hatfield Township.
Four people were sent to Grand View Hospital after the crash for treatment of injuries. Authorities said the rear driver side door had the heaviest intrusion from the Ford.
One of the occupants, a 58-year-old man, had to be rescued from the Toyota. Emergency crews were on scene for four hours. The deceased were both rear passengers in the Toyota, police said.
The Montgomery County Coroner's report stated Eva Burgos, 80, of Hatfield, died of accidental blunt impact injuries on June 25, and Jaime Burgos, 87, followed two days later.
Lennon is free on $250,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine, per court records.
Lennon has retained defense attorney Sean Cullen, of Hamburg, Rubin, Maxwell, Mullin and Lupin, P.C., in Hatfield Township.
