The holiday spirit has had a merry time floating around the North Penn area this year. Combined with the Lansdale music scene's abrupt comeback (yielding dozens of shows under its' belt since this time last year), a meeting of spirits is coming to former Little Italy in Lansdale this Saturday.
Panico's Neighborhood Grill and Sports Tavern will host their third punk show of the year on December 21, with a $10 cover. All proceeds are benefiting Manna on Main Street.
With the success of his two other shows at Panico’s this year, promoter Billy Andrey is taking the time to do exactly what the Lansdale Scene is known for: giving back.
Andrey, a Lansdale native, will host four bands as well as his own band, Westmain. Westmain has made quite the buzz locally over the last few years, with that buzz spreading to out-of-state shows and wider audiences.
While branching out and playing elsewhere, Westmain still found the time to play locally many times this year, including other benefits at Round Guys Brewery. Andrey has.booked all of the shows at Panico's this year.
“We’ve packed Panico’s out multiple times for the sake of a good time. Let’s pack it out again this time for a good cause," Andrey said.
Another local favorite, Twentytwo, will be adding the elder element to this homecoming. Members of this band have been playing together for more than 20 years... and their harmonies can attest to that.
Twentytwo has been featured recently as a Local Shot Artist by WMMR, keeping them busy in the Tri-State. This band never has trouble finding the time to play locally, as they have also played multiple shows this year at Panico’s and Round Guys Brewery, as well as other current suburban music strongholds like Phoenixville, Ambler and Doylestown.
Drummer Justin Mondschein has been a keystone part of the Lansdale music scene for more than two decades.
“i can’t think of a better way to spend the holidays than to be shoulder to shoulder with my friends at a hometown show filled with rippers! it’ll be a great way to send off 2024," he said.
Coming from the other side of the Delaware, Born Tired boasts musicians that have played all over the planet and studio engineers that work all across the musical map. Their sense of humor fits right in under the enchanting golden ceiling of Panico’s.
OK Buddy hails from the Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and is gearing up for their record release show next month in Macungie. Westmain will be making the trek up to play as well.
The Great American Typewriter played Lansdale for the first time earlier this month at Round Guys Brewery. Their singer, Cody Clark, came to town on his birthday a few months ago to check out Panico's and talk about Lansdale music.
"Bucks and Montco have such a rich musical lineage through the decades, so to be welcomed to a scene adjacent to my own in Bucks/Philly with open arms is such a great feeling," Clark said.
The spirit of the music scene can be felt weekly at Panico's, The 105-year-old building hosts karaoke every Thursday. Energy congruent to a punk show or a nightclub can be harnessed just before every Friday through themes from Disney to Emo.
There is no cover for karaoke, so utilization of that energy to benefit the community is difficult. This show is a great change of pace for that energy at Panico's, as it gives the scene a chance to do exactly what it does by design: Give back.
Bar manager Lauren Fisher is no stranger to the community at large and organizing many events and benefits. She has set up events at Panico's for The Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness, as well as Eagles Autism Foundation.
Another show at Panico's is in the works now for Eagles Autism Foundation in March. While not a live music venue, Panico's adapts their seated areas for standing-room crowds for the occasional live music event.
“I miss having a live music scene here, so for me this was a fun way to bring that scene back to Panico’s while giving back to the community," Fisher said.
Manna On Main Street is a staple of the community, firmly securing what is underneath it. The work they do and have done for decades is something that anybody that grew up here understands.
Panico's Neighborhood Grille and Sports Tavern is a century-old thumbtack in the same borough bulletin board: Different functions, different applications, but holding things together much the same around this time of year.
Take a few locals that invited their out-of-town friends to help our community and you have a pretty Hallmark-grade event calendar on that bulletin board.
The holiday spirit saw the light of the Lansdale Scene and it provided for us all. It has been a great year. Lansdale Forever
