County bomb squad responds to report of suspicious packages Saturday evening

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Bomb and Hazardous Device Disposal Unit was called to the area of Sixth Street and Maple Avenue in Lansdale Borough Saturday evening for a report of suspicious packages left next to the North Penn Mosque, according to Montgomery County emergency dispatch reports. 

The call came in shortly after 5 p.m. and by 6:09 p.m., the unit's bomb retrieval robot successfully removed the suspicious packages.

Fairmount Fire Co. of Lansdale was put on standby, per reports. Lansdale Police were on scene.

VMSC Emergency Medical Services and Plymouth Community Ambulance were also called to the scene. 

There is no threat to the public, although nearby residents and the Mosque was evacuated for safety, police said. 

The bomb squad staged in the parking lot of EventQuip on Maple Avenue.

West Sixth Street is completely closed, as is Maple Avenue.

The investigation is active, police said.
