State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced four educational institutions in the region have been awarded funding to enhance school safety and mental health resources.
“These investments demonstrate Pennsylvania’s commitment to ensuring every child has access to a safe and supportive educational environment,” Malagari said. “By strengthening security measures and expanding mental health resources, we are making schools safer for students to succeed academically.”
“Every student in PA has the right to a safe and secure learning environment,” state Sen. Maria Collett, D-12, said. “I’m excited to see this funding get put to work in our local schools to enhance safety infrastructure and behavioral health supports so all of our children have the opportunity to thrive.”
Local recipients of the grants include:
The grants are part of a nearly $20 million statewide initiative approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to address safety gaps, enhance mental health services and create secure learning environments. The funding was made possible through the bipartisan 2024-25 budget, which allocated $120 million toward school safety measures.
The funds will support a range of initiatives that include hiring mental health professionals, upgrading security infrastructure, and providing resources for career and technical education centers and charter schools.
