A Lansdale man with two prior retail theft convictions has been charged with felony retail theft for his third offense, which authorities said involved shoplifting merchandise from Target.
Aymel Mohammad, 40, of the 100 block of Penn Street, was also charged with misdemeanor receiving stolen property and numerous misdemeanor drug offenses, including possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana, according to charging documents by Montgomery Township Police.
On Dec. 6, at 4:19 p.m., police responded to Target at 125 Witchwood Drive for a report of shoplifting in progress, police said. Asset protection told police Mohammad passed all registers without paying for $714 in merchandise, and fled the store toward Giant Food Store at 1201 Knapp Road, police said.
Officers responded to the grocery store and made contact with Mohammad as he exited the store. Police said asset protection identified him as the alleged thief and he was taken into custody, police said.
A search of Mohammad uncovered a marijuana grinder with residue and the stolen property, police said. A search of Mohammad’s backpack found packaging containing suspected marijuana and two burnt ends of a blunt, police said.
According to court records, Mohammad was convicted for retail theft in July 2019 and again in July 2022.
Mohammad is free on $10,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing on Dec. 17 at 12:15 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, per court records.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
