A Philadelphia teenager who police allege was one of two people who fled from a gray Toyota Sienna minivan after a four-vehicle crash at Green and Vine streets in Lansdale at the beginning of August has been charged with felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, for stealing more than $2,000 in merchandise from Sephora prior to the crash.

Bridgett Hubbard, 18, of 3900 block of Fairmount Avenue, was charged Aug. 8 by Hatfield Police for offenses stemming from a retail theft of items from Kohl’s/Sephora at Ralph’s Corner Shopping Center at 2333 Welsh Road, police allege in court documents.

On Aug. 7, at 5:41 p.m., police responded to the department store for a retail theft in progress, per the affidavit. Loss prevention told police that three people were actively stealing items from the store, and had left the area in a dark gray Toyota Sienna with New Jersey registration eastbound on Welsh Road toward Lansdale, per the complaint.

Police found the Sienna stopped at a red light at Main Street and Valley Forge Road in Lansdale, and attempted to stop the van as it drove east on West Main Street. The driver, police said, sped up and continued eastbound, running a red light at Cannon Avenue.

Hatfield Police advised Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch of the van’s location and that it would not be pursuing it, police said.

Moments later, emergency dispatch reported to law enforcement that the Sienna had crashed at Green and Vine streets in Lansdale Borough, with three people fleeing on foot, police said.

One of the suspects, identified as Hubbard, was taken into custody by Lansdale Police, according to the affidavit.

Police viewed Kohl’s and Sephora surveillance video stills of the suspected thieves, and found Hubbard had stolen a large amount of health and beauty items, totaling $2,232, police said.

Loss prevention told police Hubbard entered the store with a large, empty bag used in the alleged theft.

Police said Hubbard was charged with retail theft on July 31 by Evesham Township, New Jersey Police and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Hubbard remains in Montgomery County jail since Aug. 9 in lieu of 10% of $5,000 cash bail, per court records.

According to documents, Hubbard was charged on Aug. 13 by Whitpain Township Police with misdemeanor theft and receiving stolen property charges, stemming from a July 24, 2024 incident.

Hubbard has a Sept. 4 preliminary hearing at 1:45 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine on the Hatfield charges.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
