An early Sunday morning fire in Towamencin Township has displaced a family, who has made temporary housing arrangements in the area.
Fire officials said a call came into 911 from a resident of the home at 2:33 a.m. for a house fire at 680 Weikel Road, located a block from Allentown Road and across from Wood's Edge Townhomes.
Officials said arriving fire agencies found a large fire involving a deck and vinyl siding on the back of the home.
By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had extended into the home and up into the roof and attic, according to officials.
All residents and pets were safely outside the home, authorities said.
"There was extensive damage to the structure itself, and the got in through the walls in the back of the home," said Towamencin Fire Deputy Chief Dean Miller. "There is smoke and water damage throughout the first and second floor. They will probably have to rebuild a significant part of the residence."
Towamencin call for assistance from numerous mutual aid fire companies. For 20 minutes, firefighters had "all hands working" to control the bulk of the fire by 3 a.m.
At 3:24 a.m., the fire was declared under control, per officials.
Crews remained on scene throughout the morning and returned to service at 6:15 a.m.
The Towamencin Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire. Miller said the origin of the fire was somewhere in the area of the deck at the rear of the home. The home is uninhabitable and unsafe, officials said.
