An 18-year-old man, who is awaiting trial on felony charges and has four active felony cases against him in Montgomery County, has been charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing a car from a Montgomery Township motel.
On July 11, at 6:40 a.m., police responded to Rodeway Inn, 969 Bethlehem Pike, for a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim told police his blue 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan was stolen from its parking spot outside his room, police said.
The owner of the car told police only one other person had a spare key and that person still had it in their possession, per the affidavit. No one else had permission to use the vehicle, police said.
Further investigation revealed Andrew Johnson, of the 1600 block of Arnold Avenue, Willow Grove, was captured on surveillance camera, police allege, at the Rodeway Inn entering the car and driving it off the property at 5:16 a.m.
Johnson remains at Montgomery County jail since July 31 on a parole/probation detainer, in lieu of $150,077 cash bail, per court documents.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
Johnson has four other active criminal court cases in Montgomery County, including one at the Common Pleas level.
Johnson is awaiting trial on 15 charges, including felony fleeing police and felony criminal attempted aggravated assault, stemming from a March 12, 2024 arrest in Horsham Township, according to court documents.
Johnson was arrested and charged July 18 with felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor fleeing police by Abington Township Police for a July 17 incident, per court documents. Bail was set at 10% of $10,077 cash, following a July 31 arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Adam T. Katzman. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
Then, Johnson was charged on July 19 by Plymouth Township Police with felony retail theft for a July 13 incident, according to court records. Bail was set at 10% of $5,077 cash following a July 31 arraignment before Katzman. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Jodi L. Griffis.
Then, in a fourth arrest, on July 31, Johnson was charged with felony counts of robbery with threatening or inflicting immediate bodily harm and robbery by taking property by force by Cheltenham Township Police for a July 30 incident, per court records. Bail was set by Katzman July 31 at $150,077 cash, per court records, and a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 15 at 11:15 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Christopher J. Cerski.
Johnson has retained Plymouth Meeting attorney Thomas Carluccio as counsel.
