Several local drop-off points listed as part of county’s unwanted medication collection efforts

Forty-five locations across Montgomery County will serve as drop-off locations for residents to rid their homes of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications during Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27, announced District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Whitpain Township Police Chief Kenneth Lawson, the president of the Montgomery County Police Chiefs Association.

The 45 participating locations are:

• Bridgeport Police Department, 65 West 4th St., Bridgeport

• Cheltenham Police Department, 8230 Old York Rd., Elkins Park

• Collegeville Borough Police Department, 491 E. Main St., Collegeville

• Conshohocken Police Department, 400 Fayette St., Conshohocken

• Douglass Township Police Department, 1456 East Philadelphia Ave., Gilbertsville

• East Norriton Township Police Department, 2501 Stanbridge St., East Norriton

• Franconia Township Police Department at Franconia Elementary School, 366 Harleysville Pike, Souderton

• Hatboro Police Department, 120 E. Montgomery Ave., Hatboro

• Hatfield Police Department, 2000 School Rd., Hatfield

Grocery store locations staffed by police are:

• Giant Food Store (Montgomery Township Police), 1202 Knapp Rd., North Wales

• Giant Food Store (Horsham Police), 314 Horsham Road, Horsham

• Wegmans at Providence Town Center (Upper Providence Township Police), 600 Commerce Drive, Collegeville

All locations will be staffed by police officers during the four hours of the event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Additional drop-off sites may be added.

Accepted during Drug Take Back Day — and throughout the year at permanent MedReturn boxes — are prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules, inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, pet medicines and vaping products. Not accepted are needles, liquid medications and intravenous or injectable solutions.

If residents can’t make it to Drug Take Back Day, unwanted medications can be dropped off and disposed of throughout the year at more than 50 permanent prescription drug disposal boxes, most of which are located at police departments. Some of these boxes were sponsored by the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association and some by Pennsylvania American Water in an effort to help keep the local water supply safe. Since the Drug Take Back program began in 2010, more than 119,000 pounds of medicines have been collected and safely disposed of.
