In a landmark move, Filitalia International, the renowned nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting, preserving, and protecting Italian heritage, has made history by representing Italy at the prestigious 35th annual International Spring Festival, taking place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at North Penn High School.

Founded in 1987 by the visionary Pasquale F. Nestico, M.D., Filitalia International has long been a beacon of Italian culture across the globe. Now, under the leadership of its seventh president, Saverio Nestico, the organization takes its mission to new heights by participating in the renowned ISF.

For Filitalia International, the decision to represent Italy at the ISF was driven by a deep-seated commitment to uphold and celebrate Italian heritage, language, and customs on an international stage.

"Whenever Filitalia is representing,” Nestico said, “it is always on behalf of all Italians throughout the world. As an international organization, we have an obligation to maintain and grow awareness of our heritage, culture, and traditions."

The annual Festival, known for its celebration of diverse cultures from around the world, provides a unique platform for Filitalia International to showcase the richness and vibrancy of Italian culture.

By participating in such global events, Filitalia International aims to forge new relationships, foster cultural exchange, and inspire a deeper appreciation for Italian heritage among people of all backgrounds.

But Filitalia's commitment to its mission extends far beyond international festivals. Locally, in Lansdale, Filitalia International operates with a steadfast dedication to promoting Italian heritage, language, and customs through a myriad of programs and initiatives.

From scholarship programs to Italian language classes, networking events for young professionals to cultural experiences, Filitalia International is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the community.

"The mission is the same regardless of where we are: to promote, preserve, and protect Italian heritage, language, and customs throughout the world with service to others,” Nestico said.

With 27 chapters spanning across the United States, Italy, Venezuela, and Cuba, Filitalia International's impact reverberates globally, touching the lives of countless individuals. Furthermore, its mission is hoisted by its ambassadors, its Christmas Seals program to help feed families, its scholarship programs, and promotion of Italian and English courses as Ente Promotore.

“We are one of six organizations in the country under the direction of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Consulate of Philadelphia to help advance Italian language programs in schools K-12 throughout seven states,” Nestico said.

At the heart of Filitalia International's local efforts lies its headquarters in South Philadelphia on East Passyunk Avenue, home to its Language & Culture Center and the History of Italian Immigration Museum.

Here, visitors are immersed in the rich tapestry of Italian history, from the journeys of Christopher Columbus to the contributions of Italian immigrants who shaped the American landscape.

Reflecting on the organization's journey, Nestico said, “Over the last 2-plus years, I have set out on a mission to have individual conversations with every single member that has joined our organization, and I have discovered that there is a thirst for Italian culture, traditions, and heritage out there. I like to tell people that Filitalia is here to quench that thirst!"

As Filitalia International embarks on this historic journey to represent Italy at the ISF, it not only celebrates the richness of Italian culture but also reaffirms its commitment to preserving and promoting this heritage for generations to come.

In doing so, Filitalia International continues to be a beacon of cultural pride and unity, bridging communities across continents through the timeless legacy of Italy.

According to a press release, the ISF, organized by the International Festival Foundation, has long been a beacon of multiculturalism, showcasing the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our community through food, music, entertainment, a health fair, and children's activities.

Admission and parking are free, ensuring that all community members have the opportunity to partake in the festivities and learn about the diverse cultures that thrive in Pennsylvania, per the release.

"This collaboration between the International Spring Festival and Filitalia International represents a unique opportunity to celebrate and learn from our diverse cultural backgrounds while highlighting the Italian community's significant contributions to our cultural mosaic. With active chapters in Montgomery and Bucks Counties, Filitalia's involvement in the International Spring
Festival underscores the organization's commitment to community engagement and cultural exchange," per the release.

"The International Spring Festival," said new International Festival Foundation President Manish Ingle, "has always been about celebrating the myriad of cultures that enrich our lives. Partnering with Filitalia International brings a new dimension to our festival, enabling us to showcase the beauty of Italian culture as part of our larger tapestry of diversity."
