Montgomery County will collect household hazardous waste at a series of public collection events beginning on April 27. The events are by appointment only and pre-registration is required. No televisions, electronics or appliances are accepted at these collections. As these are residential events, businesses and contractors will not be permitted to participate.
2024 collection events are sponsored by Montgomery County, Covanta Plymouth, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. More than 6,100 vehicles came through Montgomery County’s household hazardous waste collection events in 2023.
“Household hazardous waste is material that can be dangerous to human health and the environment if not disposed of properly," said Veronica Harris, Montgomery County Recycling Manager. "It includes flammable liquids like old gas and oil, toxic solids and liquids such as pesticides and herbicides, and reactive chemicals like chlorine for pools. Keeping hazardous chemicals out of our regular trash stream protects our sanitation workers and prevents trash truck fires. Stockpiling these materials creates a risk to our homes and families. I encourage our residents to take the time to sign up for a collection event where the County provides safe disposal for the hazardous waste from households in our community.”
Attendees are encouraged to review the full list of acceptable and unacceptable items, as well as drop-off guidelines and safety precautions via the 2024 event flyer.
