A Lansdale man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment on Oakland Avenue, stealing cash and beers while also taking a shower and leaving his soap behind, according to police.
Daniel Kolenda, 33, has been charged felony burglary and criminal trespassing, along with misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property, in connection with the investigation. Kolenda is currently being held on $10,000 cash bail, and a probation detainer was also filed, court records show.
Police were dispatched to the Executive House Apartments on Sept. 4 at 1:24 a.m. to take a report from a woman who had returned from a vacation to find her rear sliding door was unlocked and a security bar was put in place to prevent her from opening the door. The woman told police she was certain she had locked the sliding door and had never used the security bar.
The woman reported a backpack containing $400 in cash was missing, along with a bag filled with quarters. She also told police she found a used bar of soap in her shower that did not belong to her, and eight beers were missing from her refrigerator.
Investigators spoke with a neighbor who said they saw a man, later identified as Kolenda, entering the woman’s apartment while she was away, police said. The victim told police Kolenda had walked her home a week prior to the victim going on vacation, and was aware she would be away, according to charging documents.
Charges were filed against Kolenda on Sept. 5, and he was taken into custody and arraigned on Sept. 9. Court records show all charges were held during his preliminary hearing on Sept. 20, and his next court appearance will be a formal arraignment at county court on Nov. 1.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
