A Montgomery County man is facing murder charges stemming from the deaths of his mother and brother in Perkiomen Township on Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Deshong, 49, of Perkiomen Township, has been charged with first- and third-degree murder in the deaths of his brother, 53-year-old Adam Deshong, and his mother, 74-year-old Wanda Deshong. He is currently awaiting arraignment on the charges at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and will be ineligible for bail due to the first-degree murder charge.
Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to a home on Gravel Pike at 5:02 p.m. on Sept. 24 after a male placed a call to an FBI Threat Assessment Center indicating he may have hurt his family members. Arriving troopers spoke with the caller, later identified as Deshong, who was still on the phone with the FBI at the time of their arrival, and he was subsequently detained, police said.
Upon making entry into the home, troopers said they located the bodies of Adam and Wanda Deshong in the kitchen, as well as a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver that was registered to Deshong in his basement bedroom closet. The revolver had four spent shell casings in the cylinder as well as two live rounds, police said.
Autopsies were performed on the bodies by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, which found that Wanda Deshong died of a single gunshot wound to the head and Adam Deshong died of multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. The manner of death for both victims was listed as homicide, according to the district attorney’s office.
The case will be prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney and Chief of Trials Thomas McGoldrick and Assistant District Attorney Libby Hemler. Attorney information for Deshong was not available at the time of publishing.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
