(The following information was provided by the Montgomery County Office of Communications.)

This weekend, Peter Wentz Farmstead will host Civil War reenactments highlighting the effects of the war from military and civilian aspects, during a two-day event.

Visitors will witness artillery demonstrations from Battery F, 1st Regiment, Pennsylvania Light Artillery, which served in the Union Army during the war. Visitors will also have a chance to learn about the U.S. Sanitary Commission — the only civilian-run organization recognized by the federal government to serve as a focal point for civilian assistance to the military.

“Many people may be surprised to know how much support civilians provided to the military during the Civil War,” said Carly D. Schmidt, museum educator at Peter Wentz Farmstead. “We show our visitors all aspects of life during the Civil War, from how soldiers fought and camped in the field to ways that civilians aided the war effort.”

The events will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Sunday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Artillery demonstrations will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Peter Wentz Farmstead is located at 2030 Shearer Road in Worcester.

The events are open to all ages. No registration is required. A $2 donation per person is suggested. Visitors are asked to follow current County COVID-19 guidelines
