Rite Aid in Souderton to Permanently Close Thursday

Earlier this week, another Rite Aid Pharmacy in the area informed its customers via text message and email that it was closing effective Thursday, and directed customers to pick up prescriptions at another Rite Aid less than a mile away.

The Rite Aid at 741 Route 113 in Souderton at the County Line Plaza shopping center has sent prescription pickups to the Rite Aid up the street in Hilltown Township at 780 Route 113 in the Hilltown Plaza shopping center ahead of its closure in a couple days.

At the end of its first quarter in June this year, Rite Aid had closed an additional 25 stores on top of the 145 unprofitable stores that closed between 2021 and late 2022, per Forbes.

Rite Aid forecasts its fiscal 2024 losses between $650 million and $680 million, per Forbes.

North Penn Now reported last week on the closure of the Rite Aid at Main and Broad streets in Lansdale Borough, on the site of the former Tremont Hotel parcel. A couple years back, the Rite Aid in Towamencin Township at Valley Forge Road and Sumneytown Pike shut its doors, as well.

It was reported this week that Lansdale officials are looking at zoning changes to preserve its downtown district and business overlay, especially scrutinizing the Rite Aid parcel and the closed historic Wells Fargo Bank two blocks away.

The massive closures are tied to Rite Aid’s declining stock value recently, due to its preparation to file bankruptcy as a result of mounting legal costs related to opioid lawsuits.
