Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI After Vehicle Strikes Utility Pole Off Allentown Road Thursday Night

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of DUI Thursday night after his vehicle struck a utility pole off Allentown Road in Franconia Township.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Souder Road at 11:28 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Arriving officers observed that a white Tesla sedan had left the roadway and struck a Verizon utility pole.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not been named as charges have not yet been filed, sustained no injuries in the crash and he was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, police said.

Souder Road was closed between Allentown and Schoolhouse roads for approximately one hour, with the scene being cleared at 12:29 a.m. Friday morning. Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Souderton Borough Police Department and Perseverance Fire Police.

Though police believe alcohol played a role in the crash, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
