The announcement by Supervisor Wilson at the Towamencin Township Board meeting on Aug. 23 was puzzling. It was announced there will be meetings in September to explain to the public the benefits of the sewer sale. There will also be mailings sent to residents to update us on the process of selling the system. According to Supervisor Wilson, the township has communicated in many ways to residents, but the township is still receiving questions. The only question being asked by residents is: why are four members of the board ignoring the public?
An election occurred in May that put in place a Home Rule Charter that prohibits the sale of our wastewater system to a non-governmental entity. So why does the board want to spend money and use resources to persuade the majority of residents that their vote didn’t matter?
A complaint has been filed in the Court of Common Pleas that may affect the outcome of the sewer sale. This is unfortunate as lawyer expenses will be needed to defend the sale. The township has already spent money on special counsel to sell the sewer. Why do these four board members continue to flush our public funds down the drain?
The board has already spent thousands on their decision to monetize the system. The voters said no, and yet the board plans to continue to spend more taxpayer money because they say there are “questions.” The voters have spoken, the time to answer questions is over. A lawsuit is filed with an unknown outcome. Let that process proceed without adding more fuel to an already contentious issue. This board’s planned actions are both wasteful and disrespectful of voters.
