Peter Wentz Farmstead to Host Harvest Festival on Nov. 4

(The following information was provided by the Montgomery County Office of Communications.)

For a colonial farm family like the Wentz’s, the fall harvest was the most important time of the year. Winters were harsh and with no access to modern day conveniences like refrigerators, grocery stores, or delivery services, early Americans had to be prepared. This Saturday, Nov. 4, experience history with Peter Wentz Farmstead as we get ready for the cold 18thcentury winter during our Harvest Festival.

On Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests of the Farmstead are invited to the Harvest Festival to watch, participate, and learn about our local history with hands-on activities and family-friendly entertainment.

Watch demonstrations of traditional farming practices like cider pressing, corn shelling, and smoking meat. See our resident oxen Peg and Sam work to cultivate a field. Enjoy a cooking demonstration in the Summer Kitchen. Meet talented craftspeople from basket makers to tape weavers to woodworkers and more. Step into the shoes of a colonial farmer with a variety of hands-on activities like candle-dipping and tug-of-war.

Other entertainment will include:

  • 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. – Oxen cultivating the field

  • 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Musical performances by Wendi and Rik Bourne

  • Noon and 2:00 p.m. – Magic shows by Colonial Conjurer

Plus, throughout the day, enjoy delicious German food by the Wow Wagon food truck, colonial craft demonstrations, guided house tours and shopping at the Peter Wentz Farmstead Musem. It’s fall fun for the whole family!

A $2 donation per person is suggested. The Peter Wentz Farmstead is located at 2030 Shearer Road in Worcester.
