Four adults and one teen have been charged in connection with an alleged retail theft operation that resulted in the theft of more than $10,000 in merchandise from the CVS on Harleysville Pike.
Franconia Township Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Harleysville Pike during the morning of Aug. 27 regarding a theft of merchandise that had occurred the prior day. The store manager told police that four females and one male were in the store for approximately three hours and had used a distraction technique to take a total of 12 shopping carts and a basket filled with merchandise out of the store without paying, according to the criminal complaint.
The scam involved store coupons and using self-checkout while failing to ring up all items, however further details about the alleged operation are being withheld in order to prevent others from attempting the same action, police said.
In total, CVS reported a loss of $10,066.54 on the stolen merchandise, according to the complaint. However, police said the store later reported the loss to be in excess of $17,000.
The suspects were later identified as 45-year-old Colleen Dailey and 44-year-old Charles Goodema, both of Philadelphia, as well as 38-year-old Kristin Greene, of Maple Shade, NJ, 28-year-old Korrin Hoffner, of Voorhess, NJ, and a 13-year-old female who name was not released due to her age.
All four adults are charged with felony counts of retail theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit retail theft, and conspiracy to receive stolen property. Dailey was also charged with a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors in connection with the juvenile suspect, and police said the teen will also face undisclosed charges in juvenile court.
Investigators allege all four adults operated as part of a retail theft ring that allegedly struck other locations across the region, adding that additional charges were going to be filed against them in Bucks County stemming from a similar investigation.
Court records show both Hoffner and Greene were arraigned last week after being taken into custody, and they are both currently free on $10,000 unsecured bail while awaiting their Nov. 13 preliminary hearings in front of Magisterial District Judge Albert Augustine.
An arrest warrant has been issued for both Goodema and Dailey, police said.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using information provided by the Transportation Safety Administration.
