It is canine costume time.
Montgomery Mall’s Doggie Halloween Expo, Parade. Trick or Treat, Costume Party & Sidewalk Salereturns a second time to the mall from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29. The event is rain or shine.
Registration ends Sunday at midnight. Register here.
According to the event organizer Ricky Buttacavoli, the Halloween extravaganza originated in 2005 at Montgomery Township Bark Park. This year’s event will bring attention to vital issues affecting pets and regional malls.
"With the shift from remote work to office returns, animal shelters are grappling with a surge in pet surrenders,” Buttacavoli said. "Leading the way as a major sponsor is Pets Plus, joined by various animal welfare organizations working tirelessly to meet the growing demand.”
Buttacavoli is using the event as a way to spotlight the rise in dog-napping and advocate for holiday pet safety.
"However, the extravaganza is more than a pet-friendly parade; it symbolizes the evolution of regional malls,” he said. "In an era marked by e-commerce dominance and digitally driven consumers, malls are adapting to offer personalized experiences and enhanced conveniences.”
Furthermore, the mall wants nonprofits to occupy vacant store space with respective displays until spaces are filled with new tenants.
So far, the International Spring Festival, DARA-Drug Addiction Resource Alliance, and Knights for Life have already taken advantage of the window publicity, Buttacavoli said. Interested nonprofits can contact Melvin at [email protected] to secure their spot.
You can register as a vendor for the event here.
