Police Release Details of Crash that Forced Shutdown of Bethlehem Pike Tuesday Afternoon

Lower Gwynedd Police have released the details of a Tuesday afternoon crash that forced the prolonged closure of a portion of Bethlehem Pike.

First responders were dispatched to the area of North Bethlehem Pike and Fair Land Drive at 1:32 p.m. for a report of a vehicle accident. Lower Gwynedd Police Chief Paul Kenny said a dump truck driver failed to lower the dump body when exiting the Spring House Nursery, and the body then got caught on power lines, bringing down two utility poles, and causing a third to lean.

Bethlehem Pike was closed between Cedar Hill Road and the Route 309 expressway for hours as first responders, PennDOT, and crews from PECO and Verizon worked to repair extensive damage to the poles and power lines. It has since reopened.

No injuries were reported.

Kenny said the incident is under investigation, and any charges being filed will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation.

Lower Gwynedd Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Montgomery Township Police Department, Wissahickon Fire Company, Fire Department of Montgomery Township, and North Penn Fire Company.
