Police Activity at Souderton Area High School Forces District to Open on Two-Hour Delay

Police activity near Souderton Area High School has forced the school district to operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday morning.

The district initially alerted parents via email just after 7 a.m. that there would be a two-hour delay due to police activity at the high school. The district added they expected the activity to end in the morning and would provide additional information prior to 8 a.m.

A second email was sent to parents at 7:48 a.m. confirming the two-hour delay and advising that school bus pickups may be delayed.

"Thank you for your patience this morning as we worked with our law enforcement partners,” the district said. "The Franconia Police Department apprehended a suspect in the vicinity of the high school at approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning. School was delayed out of an abundance of caution as the search was underway.”

The district said at no point was there any danger to students or staff. The nature of the arrest is currently unknown.
