Lansdale Man Caught with Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia While Trespassing at Quality Inn, Police Say

A Lansdale man is facing charges after he was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia while trespassing at the Quality Inn on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomeryville.

Montgomery Township Police were dispatched to the Quality Inn just after 4 a.m. on Oct. 7 for a report of a disturbance involving a male who had been previously prohibited from being on the property. Responding police encountered a male running from the rear of the hotel while shining a flashlight into the woods and screaming, according to police.

The man, identified as 36-year-old Orlando Mendez, was described by police as "extremely jittery,” unsteady on his feet and sweating profusely. Mendez told police he knew he wasn’t supposed to be on the property, but he was looking for his girlfriend in the woods, police said.

A search of Mendez and his backpack uncovered 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale with methamphetamine residue, unused plastic baggies, generic Adderall, and other drug paraphernalia, according to the criminal complaint.

As a result of the incident, Mendez has been charged with felony possession with intent to distribute, along with misdemeanor counts of defiant trespassing, loitering and prowling at nighttime, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a summary count of public drunkenness and similar misconduct.

Mendez was arraigned later that morning by Magisterial District Judge Edward Kropp Sr., who set bail at $10,000 cash. A probation detainer was also filed against Mendez, and he was subsequently taken to county jail.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Oct. 24 at 10:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
