The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has announced an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting of a woman who was allegedly waving a gun at emergency responders Sunday afternoon.
Upper Moreland Township Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Evans Avenue in Willow Grove at 5:06 p.m. on Oct. 8 for a report of a woman waving a gun outside of a residence. Upon arrival, police said the 69-year-old woman pointed the firearm at emergency medical technicians, ignored commands to drop the weapon, then pointed the gun at police.
The woman was then shot by an officer on scene, according to the district attorney’s office.
First responders immediately rendered aid to the woman, and she was subsequently transported to Abington Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, investigators said.
The investigation is standard protocol for any officer-involved shootings in Montgomery County. The names of the woman and the officer involved in the shooting have not been released.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.
