A Quakertown man has been arrested for the eighth time on retail theft charges after he allegedly stole nearly $300 in energy drinks from Weis Markets in Upper Gwynedd Township.
Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Valley Forge Road on Sept. 3 to take a report of an alleged retail theft. Investigators said a man — later identified as 30-year-old Chase Vorhauer — placed multiple packs of Monster Energy and Red Bull into a shopping cart, exited without paying, then left the area in his vehicle.
The incident was captured on in-store surveillance footage, police said. Investigators were able to identify Vorhauer via a logo for a Bucks County construction company that was visible on his shirt, according to charging documents.
In total, Vorhauer is accused of stealing nine four-packs of Monster Energy, three 12-packs of Monster Energy, and five 12-packs of Red Bull, with a total value of $296.83, police said.
Vorhauer initially spoke to police via phone, at which point he allegedly confessed to the theft and stated he had made a mistake due to financial difficulties, according to the complaint, which also notes Vorhauer had seven prior arrests for retail theft.
Charges were filed against Vorhauer on Sept. 6, and he was subsequently arrested and arraigned on Sept. 15, with bail being set at $1,000 unsecured. Court records show a probation detainer was filed, and Vorhauer remains in custody at the county jail.
Court records show Vorhauer waived his preliminary hearing on Sept. 28, and his next court appearance is a formal arraignment at county court on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
