A New Burgh, NY man was arrested early Sunday morning after he was allegedly found "nonresponsive” on the ground next to a gas pump at the Sunoco gas station on Bethlehem Pike in Hilltown Township.
Hilltown Police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Bethlehem Pike at 12:02 a.m. on Nov. 26 to check the well being of a male kneeling next to a car parked at a fuel pump. Arriving police made contact with the man, later identified as 50-year-old Daniel Perez, who was "nonresponsive” and sitting on the ground in an "altered state,” according to the criminal complaint.
Investigators said Perez was unable to stand and maintain his balance, and they observed a black handgun inside of his vehicle near the cup holder. Perez told police the weapon was his, and a background check later showed he had a suspended driver’s license, police said.
Perez is prohibited from owning a firearm due to prior felony convictions, according to the complaint.
Court records show Perez was arraigned later that morning on felony charges of prohibited possession of a firearm and firearms not to be carried without a license. He was then taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $150,000 cash bail.
Perez has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 9, 2024, at 1 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
