Come spend a lovely winter’s eve at the Peter Wentz Farmstead during our annual Candlelight Event on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lit only by candles, visitors will see what life would have looked like on a dark winter’s night before electricity in the Wentz family’s 1758 farmhouse.
The soft glow of the candles will guide you as you make your way towards the historic house. Inside, visitors will learn how a family like the Wentz’s might have celebrated the holiday season. Then follow your nose as the delicious smell of warm food draws you into our Summer Kitchen, where you can watch an 18th century cooking demonstration.
Get into the holiday spirit with performances by the Montgomery County Courthouse Choir from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and local musicians Wendi and Rik Bourne from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. But keep an eye out for the Belsnickel! This fur-clad, Pennsylvania German counterpart to Santa Claus used to travel around Dutch Country to see which children were naughty or nice. Our Belsnickel may look intimidating, but we promise he’s friendly. Kids brave enough to speak to him may even get a treat!
Before you leave, make sure to grab a delicious German Bunza pie from local micro-bakery, Three Legged Hare. The owner, Sandra McCabe, learned to make her first hand-pie as a little girl from her mother and has been baking savory pies in the Lansdale area for five years. Three Legged Hare, which recently opened up its own kitchen for takeout, will be providing visitors with warm, delicious Bunzas, a traditional German hand-pie made with beef, cabbage, onions, and Colby Jack cheese in a brioche bun.

All ages are welcome to participate in this free event. This year, visitors do not need to register to take a house tour. A $2 donation per person is suggested.

About Peter Wentz Farmstead
Peter Wentz Farmstead is a restored 18th century Pennsylvania German historic site, which is owned and operated by Montgomery County and receives support from the Peter Wentz Farmstead Society. The site is regularly open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Guided tours are offered on the hour, with the last tour beginning at 3 p.m. The Peter Wentz Farmstead is located at 2030 Shearer Road in Worcester.
