A Quakertown man is in custody at the county jail after he allegedly stole nearly $300 worth of energy drinks and merchandise from Redner’s Warehouse Market in Montgomery Township.
Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Welsh Road at 2:31 p.m. on Oct. 31 for a report of a prior retail theft. Store personnel alleged that a male — later identified as 26-year-old Declan McCarthy — entered the store on Oct. 27 between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., filled a cart with merchandise, then exited the store without paying, according to charging documents.
Among the stolen merchandise were six Red Bull Energy packs, four Red Bull Sugar Free packs, and three Monster Low Carb packs, police said. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $291.63, according to the criminal complaint.
McCarthy was positively identified by police via surveillance footage, with investigators adding McCarthy was a known actor with three prior retail theft convictions in Richland and Hatfield townships, as well as one in Tullytown Borough, Bucks County.
Court records show charges were filed against McCarthy on Nov. 14, and he was subsequently taken into custody on Nov. 21. McCarthy was transferred to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post 10% of $5,000 cash bail, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
