Lansdale Historical Society Announces Jenkins Homestead Open House, Metal Tree Contest

Two views of Lansdale’s metal Christmas tree

Step back in time when Lansdale Historical Society brings you "1950s Christmas in Downtown Lansdale” at their annual Open House on Dec. 9.

The Jenkins Homestead, located at 137 Jenkins Avenue, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature some 1950s vintage gifts and décor on display, along with a nostalgic look at Main Street through stories, photos, and memorabilia from our archives. There will be music and light refreshments.

People of all ages are invited to show off their creative skills by building a miniature replica of Lansdale’s memorable Metal Christmas Tree which was decorated with lights during the holiday season but stood unadorned year-round next to the railroad tracks for many years. Guidelines for the contest are:

  • Tree should be no taller than three feet and freestanding

  • Work in groups or individually

  • Battery-powered lights permitted (no electric plug-ins)

  • Use any material and design that inspires you

  • Drop off your creation Thursday, Dec. 7 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 9 a.m.

Voting will take place during the open house and a prize will be awarded. Find out more about the metal tree’s history by clicking here

There is no charge for admission and donations are appreciated.
