A Hatfield man with a history of retail theft convictions is facing new charges after he allegedly stole items from the 7-Eleven on North Broad Street Saturday night.
David Jackson, 33, has been charged with one felony count of retail theft and one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, in connection with the Nov. 25 incident. Court records show Jackson was taken to county jail after failing to post $250 cash bail, but his bail was posted two days later, and he was subsequently released.
Hatfield Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of North Broad Street at 10:45 p.m. for a report of a theft. Arriving police spoke with a store clerk, who advised that Jackson had selected multiple items, including potato chips, soda, an energy drink, cigarettes, a green 7-Eleven sweatshirt, and various other merchandise, but did not have enough money to pay for it all.
Police said the merchandise was in excess of $80, however Jackson only had $23 to pay for the items.
Jackson initially paid for several items and was told to leave the store and not return, police said. However, the clerk noticed Jackson took the sweatshirt with him — valued at $34.99 — and police located him a short time later and took him into custody for retail theft, according to charging documents.
Due to Jackson having six prior retail theft convictions, the charges were elevated to third-degree felony. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
Jackson was previously arrested in October 2019 after he allegedly stole from the same 7-Eleven three times over a three-hour period. Read more about that case here.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
