Charges Pending After Drunk Driver Strikes Police Vehicle in Perkasie, Police Say

Criminal charges are pending against a Telford woman accused of striking a Perkasie Borough Police vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday evening.

Police said an officer was traveling northbound on Arthur Avenue in a marked vehicle at 9:29 p.m. near the borough library when a southbound Volkswagen Tiguan crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck the police vehicle in an offset head-on collision. The officer inside of the vehicle was transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries, and they have since been released.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 29-year-old Telford woman, was uninjured in the crash, police said. The woman’s name is being withheld by this news organization, as she has not officially been charged at the time of publishing. Police said the woman displayed signs of intoxication at the scene, and she was taken into custody after failing a series of field sobriety tests.

The crash and subsequent investigation is being handled by Pennsylvania State Police – Dublin, per Perkasie Borough Police protocol for crashes involving police vehicles.
