Towamencin DAR Bestows Community Service Honors, Donates to Local Vet Center

The Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has been busy in November with Veterans Day activities and presentations of awards in recognition of community service.

At the chapter meeting Nov. 11, Col. Angela M. Polsinelli presented "Following the Flightpath of Progress,” in celebration of Veterans Day.

The program described how the rights of women in the Air Force have changed over the past 20 years, covering female pioneers in aviation, how they proved themselves in combat, how the Air Force has made great strides to retain female pilots and how women continue breaking barriers.

Col. Polsinelli is Deputy Commander at 621st Contingency Response Group, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. She and her family reside in Lansdale.

The chapter presented community service awards to the following individuals:

  • Lisa Siegel was awarded the DAR Historic Preservation Recognition Award for her tireless work to acquire and preserve Knapp Farm (c. 1760), the only property in Montgomery Township on the National Register of Historic Places. Under her guidance, the house has been completely restored and is now headquarters of the Montgomery Township Historical Society. Lisa serves as president of the organization.

  • Jaclyn Greiser was awarded the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal. She is a veteran of the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, serving 13 years and gaining a depth of experience in military justice that earned her many military awards including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and Expert Military Justice Practitioner. She is a founding member of the Greiser Law Group, Malvern, which focuses on the military and civilian legal needs of United States service members and veterans.

  • Tess Riley received the DAR Good Citizen Award, which recognizes outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools, and communities. A high-achieving senior and Student Council President at Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford, Tess founded a chapter of Morgan’s Message which aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community. Also, while in eighth grade, Tess started her own jewelry business, and since then has donated a portion of the sale proceeds, more than $13,000 to-date to such causes as cystic fibrosis research, childhood cancer research, and autism awareness.

The Towamencin Chapter also delivered seven dozen donuts to residents at Southeast Veterans Center in Spring City, created 15 "Boodle Boxes” of goodies and necessities for soldiers currently deployed in the field and mailed more than 250 cards to veterans for the holidays.

Resident veterans were treated to the refreshments for their afternoon social in honor of Veterans Day and thanked for their service to our country. SEVC provides living space and health and social services to Veterans along with recreational and leisure activities.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-political service organization that promotes historic preservation, education and patriotism, and is open to any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
