The 2023 municipal general election drew the largest percentage of Bucks County voters in 20 years.
According to Bucks County Board of Election statistics, 42.5% of registered voters came out to cast ballots for last week’s election, which included county row officers, some municipal officials, some school board members, some judges, and some magisterial district judges.
Between mail-in ballots and in-person votes, the Board of Elections recorded 199,698 votes out of 469,951 registered voters.
The turnout was the highest since 2003, and nearly 2% higher than the 2021 turnout, which held the record previously.
Election turnout was driven in Bucks County by high-profile school board races in the central and upper portions of Bucks County.
Across the county, Democrats did well as results were tallied.
The turnout for municipal elections isn’t as high as the turnout percentage for elections featuring presidential, U.S. Senate, and governor races. The 2022 election saw 65.8% turnout, 2020 had 81.41% turnout, 2012 had 74% turnout, and 2004 had 71.09% turnout.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, there were 197,885 Democrats, 193,761 Republicans, and 79,065 registered to no party or another affiliation in Bucks County as of Oct. 23.
