(The following information was provided by the Lt. Patty Simons Law Enforcement Food Drive.)
The 28th annual Law Enforcement Food Drive is once again underway.
The Food Drive Planning Committee kicked off at Five Saints Distilling in Norristown on Oct. 25. More than a dozen local law enforcement agencies and even more area businesses have teamed once again up to collect food for nine different food banks in Montgomery County.
The food collection, one of the largest in our region, will supply numerous Montco food pantries including: Catholic Social Services in Norristown, Methacton School District’s Backpack Program, the Patrician Society in Norristown, the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard in Ambler, the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry in Lower Providence, Manna on Main Street in Lansdale, Operation 143 Food Pantry in Pottstown, the Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton, and the Salvation Army Norristown Corps with food to support their operations throughout the next year.

In November 2007, the Law Enforcement Holiday Food Drive was renamed in memory of Norristown Police Department’s first female officer, Lieutenant Patty Simons, an active member of this effort who succumbed to breast cancer in 2007. This legacy, a cause that was dear to her heart, continues to honor her and directly support the communities that she served.
Along with law enforcement agencies supporting the collection and delivery of food donations, we acknowledge the continued support of J.P. Mascaro and Sons and Iron Mountain for donating the boxes and containers used in our food collection efforts.
In addition to our on-site collection boxes, donors can also support the drive in other ways:
On Thursday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m., many of the collected donations will be loaded onto a flatbed tractor-trailer and escorted via a motorcade of police cars and motorcycles from the Logan Commerce Center Collection Site to The Salvation Army located on Swede Street in Norristown. Dozens of law enforcement officers, volunteers and government representatives will form a human assembly line to unload the trailer.
The Salvation Army Band will also be on hand to provide music and holiday cheer.
