Man Charged with Trespassing at Towamencin Auto Shop

Towamencin Township Police have filed charges against a local man who was allegedly caught trespassing at an auto shop on Forty Foot Road late last month.

Police were dispatched to Firestone Complete Auto Care, located along the 200 block of Forty Foot Road, at 6:12 a.m. on Oct. 28 for a report of a security alarm that had activated. Arriving police observed a male, identified as 51-year-old Jason Elwell, standing in the parking lot, and police said they recognized him from a prior encounter earlier that morning, according to charging documents.

Elwell allegedly told police the front door was unlocked, and he had entered the shop looking for a place to charge his phone. Police said the shop was closed for business at the time of the incident.

Elwell’s phone was later located inside of the shop by an employee, police said.

According to the criminal complaint, Elwell is currently homeless, however court documents from a recent retail theft case in Lower Salford list his address as a home along the 1500 block of Sumneytown Pike in Towamencin.

As a result of the incident, Elwell has been charged with one felony count of criminal trespassing. He was taken to the county jail following his arraignment, with court records showing a detainer was filed at the time of his arraignment.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
