Man Arrested for Driving Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Drugs Following Traffic Stop on Bethlehem Pike, Police Say

A Philadelphia man is facing charges after he allegedly was caught driving a stolen vehicle with various drugs and paraphernalia inside during a traffic stop in Montgomeryville.

Tamir Hall-Jones, 28, has been charged with felony counts of receiving stolen property, misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and various related summary charges, in connection with the Aug. 20 traffic stop on Bethlehem Pike.

At approximately 4:02 p.m., an officer with the Montgomery Township Police Department was patrolling on Bethlehem Pike when they observed a silver Dodge Magnum that allegedly had illegal tint, a tinted license plate cover, and a fake Delaware temporary registration. A traffic stop was subsequently initiated along the 900 block of Bethlehem Pike at the Lukoil gas station, according to charging documents.

As police approached the vehicle, they said the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the dashboard was covered up, and the sticker inside of the driver’s side door was missing. They then asked to look at the VIN under the hood, however the driver — identified as Hall-Jones — said the hood latch was broken and he had been advised not to open it, police said.

The criminal complaint notes that police could smell the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and Hall-Jones admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle without a medical marijuana card. A search of the vehicle uncovered several bags of marijuana, as well as several ecstasy pills, a scale, and other drug paraphernalia, according to charging documents.

Police said the vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Philadelphia, and the original license plate was found inside of the vehicle. A background check also showed Hall-Jones was driving on a suspended license, officials said.

Hall-Jones was then taken into custody, at which point police found seven oxycodone pills in his pocket, the report states. He told police he had a prescription for the pills in 2020 but no longer had one, police said.

Court records show Hall-Jones was charged via summons, meaning he has not yet been arraigned and bail has not been set. His first court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
