This year has been the season of new ventures for Little’s Ice Cream & Water Ice of North Wales.
The business at 117 East Montgomery Avenue, owned by Mike and Star Little, expanded its main shop menu and added Acai sorbet, chocolate waffle cones, and more than 40 ice cream flavors. Then, it ended up donating more than $3,000 and countless frozen treats to more than a dozen charities. The Littles also took over the cafe stand at Parkside Place and partnered with Lansdale Borough Parks and Recreation to bring cafes back to Whites Road Park and Pool and Fourth Street Park and Skatepark.
Fortunately, the ice cream season never ends with Little’s.
This holiday season, Little’s Ice Cream will open a year-round permanent location in Montgomery Mall selling ice cream, coffee, espressos and baked goods, across from Bath & Body Works and outside the lower level of Macy’s.
"We understand there have been mixed reactions to this decision, with concerns about the future of malls. However, we view this as an opportunity to bring the spirit of Main Street to a significant and vital part of our community,” wrote the Littles in a press release. "Our Montgomery Mall location will provide even more opportunities to connect with our neighbors and create year-round employment opportunities for our staff.”
To date, Little’s employs more than 30 team members who Star said are blessed to serve the community through delicious food and ice cream. Their mobile ice cream trailer was also a success, popping up at area carnivals and fairs.
"Little's isn't just about scoops; it's about creating a space where the community can gather, share smiles, and build cherished memories. We take pride in being a hub of happiness in our neighborhoods,” they said.
The Little’s said coffee, espresso drinks, craft beverages, and baked goods will be on the menu at the new location. La Colombe coffee will be featured, and the Little’s are excited to add organic juices to the craft beverage menu.
"We will also have many of our Main Shop menu items that you know and love such as ice cream, water ice, milkshakes, root beer floats, and Acai bowls. We are hoping to open in the next few weeks, pending inspections and renovation work,” they said.
The Little’s said nostalgia for the mall experience is a sentiment shared by many in the community.
"The mall was more than just a shopping destination; it was a cultural hub, a social haven, and a place for unforgettable experiences. Many of you are parents, and maybe you feel like us -- longing to share those memories and experiences with our children,” the Little’s said. "Nowadays, there are not many places for kids to experience an IN-PERSON cultural phenomenon like the mall. And so, we feel that opening a location at the Montgomery Mall continues traditions that are worth saving.”
