Dems Retain Control of Montco as Winder, Makhija, DiBello Win Seats as Commissioners

Democrats Neil Makhija, left, and Jamila Winder, center, won two seats on the Montgomery County Commissioners, with Republican Tom DiBello, right, set

Democrats retained majority control of Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Tuesday as incumbent Jamila Winder and Democratic running mate Neil Makhija were the top two vote-getters. Republican Tom DiBello, of Limerick, secured the final slot.

Winder, a Democrat from East Norriton Township, came out on top with 152,306 votes, according to Montgomery County’s election summary report.

Winder, a former East Norriton Township supervisor who currently serves as vice chairwoman of the county commissioners, was appointed in February to replace Val Arkoosh, who resigned to join Gov. Josh Shapiro’s cabinet. Finishing out her appointed term, Winder ran to hold onto her seat.

Makhija, an attorney and nonprofit president from Penn Valley, recorded 143,386 votes.

DiBello, a retired businessman and former Spring-Ford Area School District school board member, and Republican Liz Ferry, an Upper Dublin Township commissioner, were both endorsed by the Montgomery County Republican Committee.

Both beat out Commissioner Joe Gale in the May primary.

DiBello won the minority seat with 85,934 votes. Ferry came up short with 83,811 votes.

Another 459 write-in votes were also counted in the Montgomery County Commissioners race.

All results are considered unofficial until they are certified by the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
