After 91 years in business, Frederick’s Flowers & Gifts at Bethlehem Pike and Route 113 in Hilltown Township is saying goodbye.
"It’s with heavy hearts that we are announcing the closing of Frederick’s Flowers & Gifts. Serving the community since 1932, Frederick’s has been dedicated to helping you all with your floral needs. We are all thankful for the support that you have all provided us since our opening. More details will eventually be provided regarding our last day, sales, and other information in the coming future,” the business posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
The final day of business will be Nov. 22, with Nov. 17 as the last day of in-store shopping, owner Greg Muse told WMFZ. Muse runs the business with his mother, Mary Muse.
According to the report, Paul Frederick established the business in 1932 in Telford. Greg’s father took over in the 1960s and moved it to its familiar location in 1968.
"I’ve done this my whole life,” Greg Muse told WFMZ. "I’m going to miss everyone.”
Frederick’s was known for its vast variety of annuals, perennials, houseplants, fresh-cut flowers, potted flowers and citrus plants, cacti, and succulents.
Customers posted their condolences and thankful memories to the store’s Facebook post.
"I always got my lavender plants from Fredericks. Such good quality, very healthy and hearty. Will miss you terribly,” wrote Lori Dudley.
Gary Wietecha grew up down the street from Frederick’s and every spring his family would get their garden plants there, then return in autumn for mums, and again at Christmastime for wreaths. Today, Wietecha gets Christmas logs at Frederick’s for his parents’ grave.
"As an adult, when I moved back to the area, I got my flowers and other stuff there,” he said. "Greg has always been amazing. So helpful and does amazing and creative work. As for Mary, I have adored her for many years. Always a hug and a kind word.”
Nearly all of Frederick’s stock has been reduced to 50% off, specifically houseplants, candles, and plush items. Hummel figurines are 75% off and mums are on sale for two for $10.
Fredericks’ is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
St. Luke’s University Health Network has purchased the property for a new medical site, according to WFMZ and Facebook.
