Recent and upcoming school events were discussed at the October 26 Souderton Area School Board meeting.
In his report to the board, Superintendent Frank Gallagher touted the recent high school homecoming event as a success, with more than 600 tickets sold to the tailgate preceding the football game and more than 1,500 students attending the homecoming dance. He also announced the beginning of high school clubs, including a new corn hole club, an upcoming veterans’ breakfast and a SAVE recycling event on November 4 and the official launch of the Souderton Area School District’s Instagram page.
Student representatives Colin Hughes and Aiden Kearns highlighted some other school events, including a Shakespeare Day featuring a performance of Romeo and Juliet, the crowning of the Boys’ Cross Country team as league champions, the upcoming end of the marking period, Thanksgiving vacation, the beginning of winter sports and a high school blood drive.
The board also played a video about Indian Crest Middle School’s recent Day of Service event, featuring community service projects, an obstacle course and a fundraiser for local families in need. The event successfully raised more than $11,000.
Rounding out the meeting were several student recognitions. Students Maya Herrlinger and Jeremy Evans were recognized for their participation in the Thermo-Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Herrlinger completed a behavioral science project on classroom cheating, while Evans completed a botany project on the impact of UV radiation on sea germination. Both students finished among the top 300 Junior Innovators in the nation.
The board recognized the high school’s National Merit Scholarship students, including Amanda Yang, Rahul Hegde, Aaron Jones, Aidan Kearns, Arman Khatri, Ariel Levin, Daniel Levin, Ashley Paturzo, Justin Stauffer, Gabriela Stone and Bryan Wu.
