Cause of Wednesday Night Fire Along Liberty Bell Trail in Lansdale Under Investigation

The cause of a fast-spreading fire along the Liberty Bell Trail in Lansdale Borough is currently under investigation.

Units from the Fairmount Fire Company were dispatched to the intersection of Almond and Bamboo drives in the Andale Green development off East Hancock Street at 8:06 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a field fire. Arriving fire crews encountered a 50-foot by 300-foot section of tall grass and brush that had caught fire, with winds causing the blaze to quickly spread and endangering nearby homes.

“Within a few minutes of arriving, firefighters were able to extinguish the majority of the flames and stop the fire from spreading further, placing it under control,” said Fairmount Fire Chief Gavin Butler. “Fire personnel wet down the entire area and surrounding vegetation, then cleared from the scene around 10 p.m.”

No injuries were reported, and no damage was observed to the surrounding properties, Butler said. All residents were able to remain in their homes and no one was displaced by the blaze.

Fairmount Fire Company was assisted at the scene by units from Hatfield and North Penn fire companies, as well the Lansdale Borough Police Department.

The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time and remains under investigation.
