Towamencin DAR Presents Wissahickon Valley Public Library Volunteer with Literacy Award

Rita Moskoff was recently honored by the Towamencin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) with the national organization’s Literacy Champion Award at their May meeting.

Moskoff has been volunteering with Wissahickon Valley Public Library for more than six years. She started at the Ambler branch teaching conversational English as a Second Language (ESL). During the pandemic, Moskoff continued to hold instruction online, even adding a second weekly class later.

Her ESL classes consist of both international and local intermediate students who represent diverse cultures and backgrounds.

“We enjoy learning from each other, and we now consider ourselves friends,” said Moskoff. “I believe I'm helping the students with specific questions they have about United States protocol and helping to enhance their comprehension and pronunciation, but I know my learning and life are enhanced and enriched by our laughter and friendship.”

Ruth Baltozer, Towamencin Chapter Literacy Promotion Chair, presented the award.
